Being a woman is not easy; one goes through so many stages of physical and emotional changes. Women should include food items in their diet that help boost their immunity and strength during pregnancy, provide protection from breast cancer, sufficient iron to counter the loss of blood through menstruation and promote healthy bone density. Women generally need food rich in iron and calcium, also food that are rich in isoflavones or plant hormone are quite beneficial for women. Here are some food items that women should include in their daily diets to stay more healthy and fit

To know about food for men, please visit my blog where I have an article on Food for men

Flaxseed

Benefits:-Protects the heart and ovaries.

Consuming flaxseeds helps in a condition called polycystic ovary, in which there are many small cysts in the ovary which can affect a woman’s ability to get pregnant. Also as a woman ages, her risk of developing cardiovascular disease rises. Research suggests that flaxseeds have phytoestrogens that help protect the cardiovascular system.

Asparagus

Rich in folic acid, asparagus is extremely helpful, especially during pregnancy. It insures proper neural tube development of the fetus. It’s also needed for the formation of red blood cells and antibodies.

Soybeans

Benefits:-Helps in menopausal and PMS symptoms.

Including soybeans in your daily diet can help your body regulate estrogen, thus alleviating many menopausal and PMS problems. Consuming soybeans also help reduce menopausal hot flushes in women.

Milk

Milk being a rich source of calcium, builds bone mass and helps keep osteoporosis at bay. Milk is particularly beneficial for women and is recommended to those suffering from arthritis. It’s also needed for sustaining life and the proper functioning of the heart and muscle movement.

Green Vegetables

Dark leafy green vegetables help women meet their additional iron requirements, specially during pregnancy. They also help build up hemoglobin and the immune system .Iron is known to fight tiredness and irritability. Green vegetables are also loaded with fibres which help combat constipation-a common problem among pregnant women.

Dried fruits

Dried fruits such as raisins, apricots, cherries and cranberries are high in iron. Cranberries are also helpful in preventing urinary tract infections that can occur during pregnancy.

So one should select one’s food items carefully as the right diet can go a long way in preventing many ailments.

does lactose intolrante affect pregnancy?

Thanks for the comment Pinky, here is your answer.

People who are lactose intolerant will find that dairy products give them wind. If you're highly intolerant you may already be aware of this before pregnancy, since dairy products may even cause bloating, diarrhoea and abdominal pain for you. But if you're only somewhat intolerant (and thus not aware of it) you may start to feel some distress during pregnancy.

Personally I would suggest you to best avoid dairy products during pregnency even if you are somewhat intolerant to lactose. It is better to take calcium supplement then risk the baby.
