God Religion and Me: Religion For Me
71
God Religion or Me? Who or what should be considered as most important one when a comparison is done among them. It is difficult, in-fact it is one of the most complex questions to ask and answer at the present time. Definitely, the answer in most cases will be God, sometimes it maybe religion but rarely it will be “Me”. Different people with different background, different believe, different upbringing etc etc etc, will pop up with different answers and I am sure it will be almost impossible to come to any concrete answer to the above question. And frankly speaking even I am not going to answer this question myself! I am not quite the right kind of person to answer complex questions.
Then what am I going to write here? Well I am just going to tell you about what I feel about them and nothing more. Having said that I would like to say "Anything that I mention here are solely my own opinion. I am not here to prove anything to anyone." I believe in “Live and let Live”, believe in what you want to, let others do the same and at the same time respect others believe too. It is very simple, “Give respect, Take respect”. Even the example I give here will be just to prove my point and not to question anyone or hurt anyone. Accept it or reject it but please don’t get hurt.
In this Hub I am going to discuss about my opinion only towards Religion. To know what I think about my believe in God, read my Hub; God Religion and Me: God For Me
Religion for me
I don’t see this question too tough to answer. What is religion? Simply put, it is set of beliefs and practices that is being followed by a community to lead a better life socially. A religion also defines protocols for private life too as the main aim of a religion is to define protocols for a good and healthy life. When I say, by following these protocols one will be able lead a good life I do not mean that all protocols defined in a religion are good and up to the mark. There are a lot of dogmas and superstitions defined too and one must use his/her discretion and sense to follow the rules. By defining a fixed protocol for all in the community, a religion also makes sure that people feel united; this is yet another important purpose of a religion. Human beings have a tendency to feel more for the fellow human being if he/she too follows what he/she does hence, if there were a common thing that is followed by all, then all will feel close and united.
Problem of believing in a religion!
But is religion that simple? Yes, it is but it gets complicated the moment we start pushing too much of concepts with it, especially the concept of god. The logic is, all religion that exist on the face of Earth today are man made (I will come to this in a while as to why do I think so). From time to time different region around the world saw the creation and rise of different religion. They were born out of sheer necessity or because the set of protocols (religion) already being followed weren’t suitable for the people of that region, mentality, time or whatever the reason be. We have always believed in God and hence God became the most important entity in protocols that were defined. Along with other protocols, ways to address and worship God was also defined. Anything that was defined was done keeping God in mind. The concept of God has always been very strong among people hence, followers of a religion started thinking that if you don’t follow the religion then you do not believe in God too because the way one should address and worship God is the way defined in their religion. This particular sentiment made the line separating the believe in God and believe in a religion very thin. Moreover the concept of God itself is very complex which in turn makes the concept of religion in present time even more complex although it is not the case. You will hardly come across an individual who believes in one religion while worships and addresses God in a way done in another religion. At least I have not come across anyone yet.
Yet another reason for the complex looking nature of
religion today is its linkage with spiritualism. This is a concept wherein one can
control his/her emotions and one who will be able to visualize the world that
is free of all bounds. Spiritualism means understanding the real meaning of
life and understanding oneself completely. Spiritualism is not based on any
religion but still people think that if you are spiritual in nature that means
you are a strict follower of a religion. I don’t think this way, one can be
spiritual without being associated with any religion at all. We have a tendency
to think that a spiritual person has to be some saint like or the one who is in
constant devotion to God. Not only this, people even think that if you do not follow
their religion then you can never be spiritual.
We have cultivated a habit of making things too complicated. Unless something is too complex we don’t think it is worth anything but the fact is, it is the simple things that carry the greatest secrets of a happy life. On can keep writing volumes on this issue but will just complicate the meaning of religion even more. As I said it is a very simple thing so lets keep it simple.
Religion is man made! How?
Yes, each and every religion that we can think about are all
man made just like a needle or a space shuttle. It could have been kept simple
like a needle but we made it far more complicated then even a space shuttle.
Whatever the thing be, I believe that religion is completely man made and it has no connection with God or spiritualism. Lets discuss why do I think like that!
Take anyone from any religion across the globe and ask a
simple question “Do you think your
religion is the best one? If yes then why?” Take my word the answer will
definitely be somewhat like this, “Yes I
do believe that that religion I follow is the best because it is the one
created by God and if followed properly it will lead you to God. It delivers
the correct message from God and that is why it is the best”. If I am to
believe this then why did God created so many religions when each one says that
there is a single God. So, if there be a single God then why so many different
religions were created? Moreover why would God create such a thing which will
become a reason for people to fight among themselves? I don’t think it is God’s
job!
There is one more reason why I think religion is not the product of God. Take any religion that has ever been in existence, be it modern or primitive. If one digs deep inside to find out the birth of a religion then there will be one thing that will be common among all. A religion will have all those characters that was prevalent at its time of birth at the place it was born. A through study of the characters of a religion and its practices will give us a very good idea of its place of birth. Needle-less to say these religions were created based on the culture of the community and the necessity of time. It was kept in mind the best practices that should be followed by the people of the community.
There are many examples that I can give to support the above
point but doing so may be controversial. Hence, if the God were responsible for
creation of religion then such a religion would have been universal in nature
and it would not have been culture or time dependent. The religion would not
have favoured any one set of people nor would the protocols defined have been
time dependent.
Knowing these things, it hurts that people kill each other for religion by taking the name of God. It really hurts that people kill his/her fellow being just because they differ in the way they carry out their daily activity. It is all because we people have made such a simple thing so complicated.

Hm, PP, every society has it´s own religion and it is the same old story from the ancient history.. If my God is not same as yours, I can always tell that mine is better then yours, so I can start the war to get your territory in the name of my God who is better or stronger then yours...at least different.
If my God is man, he will say that women must be obedient to the men.
If my God is full of revenge, he will create the enemies, destroy them and after that create the new ones...etc.
Things are very simple: some people tend to misuse religions for the purpose of power and personal profit.
Love is only solution to overcome all this nonsense, I cannot agree more with you. A lot of Love to you...
If more and more people start opening their minds to this, then things can change one day. I just think a lot of these religions were really meant to control people, and keep them thinking that the word they are being preached is the only word. That way of controling people is the most conceited, utimately evil lie ever told to mankind. This is just my own personal opinion on the subject, drawn from a lifetime of religious control, brought on by Mormon upbringing. I know that there are good, truthful groups(or religions, if you prefer), so i am still seeking my own spiritual answers, but to me, it is a personal thing, not what some big *orginization* tells me to think:)
one God, one Religion, one Belief
Thumbs up for a very good thought provoking article. To a certain extent your beliefs are similar to mine and that photo of all the religious symbols reminded me of a hub I wrote long time ago:- http://hubpages.com/hub/My-GOD-is-better-than-your
Hello packerpack,
What do you think of Buddhism? The thing I really like about Buddhism is that it is about independent thought, personal growth, and how you live life. Although I am not religious, there are many things about Buddhism that really appeal to me.
There will always be controversy over religion. You were wrong to say that God created so many religions. God never did that. It was man who created all types of religion. They chose what they want to worship and God allows it.
Great job on writing about a topic that invariably invokes an emotional response by the reader...
So you believe in religion/spirituality without believing in God... cool nice perspective.
Hi, nice to meet you!
I believe that there is the Universe that most people call God - and that is all that there is. Aftewards, Man founded many and different religions. Jesus itself, known by being the material support of God, sent by Himself so that men could listen to its message, wasn´t itself a religion. That is true that religions are made by men, because it is confortable or because of political, economic and social interests. Man's fredom gives him the opportunity to be in this Universe by himself or inside a religion's group. But the truth is that inside any religion there is Their own choosen God/Universe/Interest. God/Life/Universe is very friendly on letting us choose our own way, don´t you agree?
Every religion includes one or more dogmatic ideas. Therefore, there was never a time and there will never be a time when the entire humanity will accept one religion please see this article for more info http://www.aryasamaj.org/newsite/node/704
Hi! Packerpack
Very Good article. Did you notice that in Indian languages there is practically no word like religion. The wrod used for religion Dharma in Hindi for example means more like rules of daily life quite a bit like what you describe. So your thinking is quite normal in our society.
The spiritual aspects were always considered in India more as philosophies. That is one reason we have from ancient times attitudes "Sarva dharam samana Bhava" (Have similar glance at all religions) and "All paths towards truth are parallel to each other and lead to the same goal, you follow what you find suitable for you"

Dear PP, you are right: every religion is man made, it is just way how people try to explain cosmic laws on one way or another plus trying to find the most appropriate ways how the members of one society would need to behave.
My opinion is the following: when I say "God" I think about everything and everybody in this universe, about life-force or cosmic force which moves us and creates us. As a part of this force - we ARE also creators, so we created all that religions...But because we are part of this force, which some of us call GOD, we can always say that God created them. Because, "God" or "life force! or "cosmic energy" IS in everything and everywhere. God, or life-force is inside us so we cannot deny OUR responsibility and say: yes, as a part of this great cosmic energy, or highly intelligent life-force ("God") WE created all these religions in order to celebrate it, to become more connected with it, to become better and more compassionate....and yes WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT WE ARE TEACHING THE OTHERS, because humanity wrote the "Holy Books".
Well PP, every person has his/her own religion and his/her own concept of God. But only when people reach higher level of conscioussness, they describe Him/Her/IT with the similar words - unconditional love, light, freedom, peace and mercy...in themselves and everywhere around.
I like to say: Love is in the root of every religion but much, much more then we can comprehend, and for sure above any religion. Thumbs up for great Hub:
